Women's swimsuit - evolution or revolution?

Even in ancient times, the human body was considered the pinnacle of perfection and natural beauty. Representatives of those times were actively involved in sports, so the semblance of a bikini can be seen on ancient frescoes and pedestals. The Middle Ages, on the other hand, radically changed the aesthetic ideas and moral principles of people, and bathing suits had to be forgotten for many centuries. Swimwear received a new life already in the 19th century, then the young ladies showed a desire to swim in public places. Swimming in the same place with men was indecent for highly moral ladies, so small carriage huts worked on the beaches. The motorhomes were horse-drawn and when a woman changed into a bathing suit, she was immediately taken to the water. The bathing outfit consisted of a loose tunic, belt and pantaloons below the knees.

In 1912, women's swimming was included in the program of the Olympic Games, but the costumes remained closed. The Australian swimmer Annette Kellerman made a revolution in this area of fashion, the girl cut off the sleeves and legs of her swimsuit. The athlete was disqualified for such a trick, so Annette had to sew on the missing pieces of clothing. Subsequently, the athlete launched her own line of women's swimming suits. Since the 20s of the 20th century, this part of the wardrobe has become more open. In 1922, Gabrielle Chanel had a hand in this fashionable area. The designer released a swimsuit with open arms and a short skirt.

A real legend in "swimming fashion" was Jacques Heim. The couturier created elegant shorts with a high waist, revealing a strip of the stomach. The man first proposed a two-piece swimsuit and called it "Atom", because the clothes consisted of small pieces of fabric. In 1946, designer Louis Reard introduced fashionistas to the bikini, the most provocative swimsuit of the time. Rear created such a shameless costume that fashion models refused to wear it on the podium. And only in 1962, skimpy swimsuits gained prestige among girls, because this year the cult "James Bond - 007" was released, in which the main character emerges from the sea in a bikini.

Choosing the right swimsuit style is not easy, because it all depends on the woman’s figure:

  • If you have delicate shoulders and wide hips, then you are a pear body type. Women with such proportions should emphasize the neckline and visually expand the shoulders. A "halter" style bodice, which is tied around the neck, or a top decorated with ruffles will come to the rescue. We recommend avoiding bottoms with side ties, bikinis with a skirt and models with bright prints, because they increase the volume of the hips.

  • Women with a thin waist, and shoulders and hips of the same width, represent the hourglass type. They are suitable for retro swimwear, namely swimming trunks with a high fit. Also, the figure will be decorated with a bikini with triangular cups and a V-shaped bottom: this style will visually lengthen the legs.

  • Shoulders wider than hips - you are a "triangle". A one-color swimsuit will balance such a figure. Briefs with a belt, skirt, dynamic print and ruffles will add volume to the bottom, and bodices with bones will highlight the bust.

  • Girls with an unexpressed waist, approximately equal to the width of the shoulders and pelvis - the owner of the "rectangular" type. Separate swimsuits connected on the stomach with a strip of fabric are suitable for such a figure: the style will emphasize the smooth curves of the body.

Pay attention to your body proportions and follow the tips above.
