Preppy style - expensive and aristocratic

"What is this clever and incomprehensible word - preppy?" - you thought. For example, for me, first of all, it is associated with the book of the same name "Pippi is a long stocking", but the essence of the word lies in a completely different sense. Preppy is a clothing style for students of expensive private schools who are preparing to enter elite educational institutions.

This trend took root in the late 40s of the twentieth century and united all people from wealthy families - the so-called "golden youth". These teenagers wore a special school uniform with the emblem of the educational institution and distinguished themselves by their special, upbringing, politeness, good manners and neatness in clothes. A little later, in the 90s, thanks to Marc Jacobs, the grunge style appeared and relegated preppy to the background. But in 2007, with the release of the youth series Gossip Girl on television, the fashion for clothes of intellectual teenagers loudly returned. The series showed children of wealthy parents from Manhattan who studied at an elite school and dressed in expensive brands.

This style of clothing is characterized by pleated skirts, dresses and A-line skirts, classic trousers, skinny, shirts, polo, jackets, knitted jumpers, vests with stripes in the form of logos of the educational institution. The fabric should be exceptionally expensive and of high quality - cotton, wool, cashmere, etc. The colors are dominated by beige, grey, white, red, yellow and green. As for prints, it is preferably a cage, a rhombus and a strip. For the preppy style, a large number of accessories are permissible - headbands, ties, bow ties, neckerchiefs, belts, fashion glasses and much more. Shoes should be discreet and comfortable - these are loafers, oxfords, ballet flats.

One of the famous fashion houses that adhere to the preppy style in their collections is Tommy Hilfiger. The same trend can be traced to the shows of Ralph Lauren, Lacoste and Burberry. Many celebrities prefer the preppy style - such as Blake Lively, Kate Middleton and Olivia Palermo. If in the 40s children from ordinary families could only dream of the clothes of "elite students", now it is available to everyone, you just have to look into clothing stores.
