Who Invented Miniskirts?

We are used to seeing women in short dresses and skirts every day, but we never thought about where this style of clothing came from. Even before the 20th century, the world could not imagine naked female legs, not to mention the revealing outfits of modern fashionistas. The traditions of that time promoted conservatism and restraint, which is why the miniskirt became a real revolution in the fashion industry and turned it upside down.

There are two stories about how the idea of creating short skirts came about. According to one version, the French fashion designer Andre Courrège was the first to develop this wardrobe detail. In 1961, the couturier released a new collection, which included mini-length items. However, the designer did not patent the invention, which he regretted in the future. The second story has become more popular, she says that the creator of miniskirts was the Englishwoman Mary Quant. The woman cut off her skirt to an indecent length for that time in order to facilitate the cleaning process in the apartment. Her friend saw the designer in this look, and a week later Mary began selling miniskirts in her Bazaar store. And in 1963, Quant released an exclusive collection and conquered the UK with a rebellious style of clothing.

The fashion for miniskirts has made a fantastic breakthrough. In 1966, the Queen of Great Britain, Elizabeth II, shocked the public with her appearance in a cropped skirt, after which Mary Quant was proclaimed Woman of the Year and awarded the Order of the British Empire. America took the fashionable style with a flurry of positive emotions. Kennedy's widow, Jacqueline Onassis, proudly wore the mini in front of the paparazzi cameras. The woman was an icon of the style of the eighties, and short skirts only emphasized her flawless figure and slender legs.

The miniskirt ushered in an era of more relaxed female looks and unheard-of beauty ideals. Thanks to this detail of the wardrobe, the requirements for professional models have also undergone cardinal changes. The stylists chose slender fashion models, with parameters 80-55-80, & nbsp; long and even legs. And brightly highlighted eyes, with false eyelashes and dark shadows became an example of popular makeup.

Miniskirts freed women from prejudices and broke the world's stereotypes of attractiveness. The creation of short dresses opened up new facets of femininity, tenderness, sexuality and even became a weapon of feminists.
