fashion evolution
Fashion is a very fickle concept. It can change, be forgotten and come back again. Changes in fashion are influenced by many factors - religion, politics, culture... But the strongest driving force in fashion is women. We will now tell you about how fashion changed in the 19th and 20th centuries!
France was the center of fashion in the 19th century. It was in this delightful country that the first couturiers appeared, which is worth one Coco Chanel! A distinctive feature of the fashion of that time was the ever-changing style of women's dresses. When women got tired of tight corsets, the Empire style appeared. These are light translucent dresses made of cotton fabrics with a high waist, which clearly traced the female silhouette. Later, during the Napoleonic government, silk came into fashion, which further emphasized the high status of the nobles.
In the second half of the 19th century, corsets returned again, the neckline became deeper. Also, bell-shaped skirts, slightly opening the legs, which, in turn, were decorated with stockings, came into fashion. But this trend did not last long. Already in 1850 they began to wear puffy and long skirts. The wider the skirt was, the higher the status of its owner. Then the porters invented the crinoline - the so-called petticoat with mesh and rings. But in the outfits of that time it was almost impossible to see the silhouette of a woman, and at the end of the 19th century a fashion revolution took place. Women switched to more elegant dresses that emphasize the figure.
The First World War influenced the fashion trends of the 20th century. Women became more self-reliant, began to wear suits of the male type, and skirts became a little shorter. In the 1950s, retro came into fashion - puffy skirts, thin waists, small hats, scarves and many accessories. Later, the fashion was liberated and mini-skirts and flared trousers became popular.
In the 70s, hippies appeared who adhered to ethnic motifs and boho style in their clothes. Jeans hit the wave of popularity! The 80s were the time of disco, when girls wore overtly tight leggings, tights, leather jackets and stretch jeans. The final decade of the 20th century is characterized by the flourishing of subcultures. Then it was fashionable to have a casual look, wear jeans, leather skirts and broad shoulders.
