Barbie Doll Style Evolution

All of us girls played with a Barbie doll in childhood - dressed her, invented outfits, sewed clothes on our own. There is even such a thing as "Barbie style", which is associated with an abundance of pink and glitter. You will be surprised, but in the wardrobe of a plastic blonde, there are about a billion different suits and dresses that were sewn for her by famous designers. No wonder the doll has become a real style icon!

Barbie

The first Barbie doll was invented by American Ruth Handler for her daughter Barbara. At first, the plastic novelty sold very poorly - no one could get used to the defiant female forms, but it soon gained popularity and Ruth earned as much as $ 100 million. Then Barbie looked like a pin-up model - she had short bangs with a ponytail, pearl earrings, high-heeled sandals and a black and white striped swimsuit. The rest of the clothes had to be bought separately.

Barbie of that time tried to keep up with fashion, and real couturiers came up with outfits for her. In 1961, her life became more interesting - she began to study at school, play sports, go to parties. Accordingly, she had outfits for all occasions. And in  1967, the first black Barbie appeared, which made a splash.

The 70s saw the beginning of the hippie era. Barbie changes style a little and becomes more like a modern doll - loose hair and clothes in the spirit of that time. The doll also expanded her sports hobbies - she got an outfit for a skier and a figure skater.

In the 80s, Barbie began to rapidly build a career. If earlier she worked as a nurse, a ballerina and a teacher, now she has become an astronaut ... in a pink spacesuit, of course. In addition, she got business suit, which turned into an evening dress. It was in the 80s that a new Barbie model came out with a smile that sparkled on store shelves with the slogan "Girls can do anything."

The 90s were a real revolution for Barbie - she learns new professions, changes outfits. In her wardrobe you can see a leather jacket from Harley Davidson, jeans from Levis and evening dresses from Chanel. So, over time, she became an indispensable toy for all girls.
