History of heels

Shoes with heels have always been considered a symbol of femininity, because they give their owner not only height, but also elegance. Every self-respecting girl has in her wardrobe several pairs of shoes with heels: models with small stable heels for every day and models with high stilettos for going out. But heels, like clothes, also have their own history...

The origin of heels is attributed to the ancient Egyptians. Then this device served not for beauty, but for the economy: it was much easier to move around the arable land during sowing in heels. At the same time,  heels began to be used in Greece: the actors of the amphitheater put on heels to appear higher on stage - the higher the heel, the more noble the character.

You can talk about heels as a fashion trend already in the Baroque era. One French officer created heeled boots and they became an integral part of the military uniform. Following men, women also became interested in heels. Venetian courtesans wore the so-called chopins - extremely uncomfortable shoes of that time. In order to at least more or less elegantly move around, they used servants. The height of such shoes reached from 15 to 42 centimeters, but they were soon banned.

As an item purely to increase height, heels began to be used in 1533. It was then that the Queen of France, Catherine de Medici, who had a very small stature, put on heels 5 centimeters high. All the ladies of the court and even the men were delighted. The real era of heels has begun, but only people could afford such a luxury.

As for men, all records are broken by Louis XV, who, trying to defeat the complex of short stature, wore 10-centimeter heels. This fashion was picked up by his favorite - the Marquise de Pompadour, who also did not differ in stately growth. Until the 17th century, shoes were extremely uncomfortable - they were made on the same block, both for the left and for the right foot. The advent of heels created a need for practical and comfortable shoes, so they began to make a different last for each foot.

No one is surprised by heels now. Shops are filled with various models: from sandals to over the knee boots. In general, choose — I don't want to!
